Adoption Process
-
Step 1: Know what you want
By doing some research or chatting with our knowledgeable staff, you can let us know what bird you are interested in and ask any questions you may have. We are always happy to help point you in a direction if you don’t have one!
-
Step 2: Schedule a Visit
During available hours, certain birds may be visited and interacted with to determine compatibility with your family. Depending on the complexity of the bird, some visits can only be by appointment only and will last an average of 30 minutes. The only available visitation times are when there is no grooming. Call or email the store to have an associate help set up an appointment for you.
-
Step 3: Visit and assess
Depending on the bird, the first visit may be enough to know if you are right for one another. Other birds need multiple visits over several days. The required number of visits is determined by the staff during the bird’s assessment period and may vary greatly. This information is shown on the bird’s profile.
⠀
There are times, however, where no matter how much time and effort you put in, the bird simply will not bond with you. Like humans, they enjoy some people and dislike others. It is our duty to know the bird, their body language, and ensure we never send a bird to a home with someone that makes them uncomfortable.
-
Step 4: Place a down payment
Once you have decided on your new family member, staff will go over contracts and information with you, and you may place a 50% down payment on the bird. This holds the bird so that it may no longer visit with other customers, and it will be waiting for the day you come to pick it up. It is non-refundable except in exceptional circumstances, so be sure you are ready for the commitment.
-
Step 5: Prepare and pickup
After placing your deposit, you have up to 7 days to come pick up your bird (That duration may be extended at the cost of the boarding fee). You will schedule your pickup time and date with a staff member when you place your deposit. This window gives you time to make sure you have everything you need for a smooth transition when bringing home your bird. Same day adoption/pickup is possible depending on the bird, and if you are able to show you have everything ready for your new family member to the staff’s satisfaction. Don’t rush this process; Several days are nothing compared to the many years you can have with your bird if you take care from the start. All birds come with a portion of their food to make dietary transitions easier.
