  • IRA Giving

With an IRA, once you reach 72 years of age you are required to take the annual Required Minimum Distributions. If this distribution amount might push you into a higher tax bracket, and you don’t need the extra funds for living expenses, you might consider gifting them to the Feathered Follies Foundation as a qualified charitable distribution. Because Feathered Follies Foundation is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit, the IRA income is distributed directly to the foundation and you don’t need to report it as taxable income. You will pay NO taxes on it!

  • Legacy Giving

Good planning and a good lawyer will allow you to determine what your legacy will be once you are gone. To be certain your wishes are fulfilled when it comes time to settle your estate be sure to make arrangements now. Of course, family needs always come first, and once that is completed, perhaps you would consider a legacy gift to the Feathered Follies Foundation. There are various ways to accomplish this heartfelt gift:

    1. You can include a Bequest to Feathered Follies Foundation (FFF) in your will or living trust. The bequest only becomes irrevocable upon your death. When the distribution of your estate goes into effect, FFF receives the bequest specified, which is tax-exempt under state and federal law. If you already have a will or living trust, it does not have to be rewritten to gift a bequest. A simple amendment (codicil) can be added. Please consult with your attorney, estate planner, or legal consultant.

i.e. “I give, devise, and bequeath to Feathered Follies Foundation of Contra Costa County (tax ID#), located in Concord, California, the sum of ___________dollars ($______) for the benefit of its general purposes.”
*Please note: You can also state a percentage of your estate rather than designating a specific sum.

    2. You can specify shares of stock (including the name of the stock and the number of shares) to FFF.

    3. You also can designate all or a portion of the proceeds from a life insurance policy.

    4. You can designate real or personal property to FFF. (Include a description and the exact location.)

    5. Feathered Follies Foundation can be named as a beneficiary of a retirement account, life insurance policy, or annuity. This type of legacy gift costs you nothing now, requires no minimum contribution, and allows you to change beneficiaries at any time. The best way to give this type of gift is to designate Feathered Follies Foundation as a beneficiary in your will. This also can be accomplished with a codicil (amendment) if your will is already prepared.

*Please note: For any important financial decisions, Feathered Follies Foundation always suggests consulting with your tax accountant, financial advisor, attorney, or estate planner for guidance. If you need legal advice, we suggest the kind Lawyer who helped us establish the foundation in the first place: Jerry Johnson

These important decisions always rest with you. But, please know we welcome all gifts from dedicated donors like you, who support our important avian mission.
