Relinquishment

Compassion. Understanding. Reduce the stigma.

Most pet birds are still genetically wild. Only birds like chickens, turkeys, and pigeons have undergone that genetic change. When it comes to parrots and other species, even if a bird was raised in captivity, it still retains all the instincts and behaviors of its wild counterpart. Unlike cats and dogs, there is no genetic domestication of exotic birds yet.

This is not often understood when someone purchases a pet bird from a store or bird-mart, and many sellers do not care if you understand what you are getting into. Therefore, it is no shock to us when you find that your wild animal is too loud, messy, aggressive, or otherwise unsuited to living in a human home. That was never their intended environment, and many bird owners struggle with what to do when the idea of bird ownership does not match the reality.

When owning a bird does not suit your lifestyle, and the bird is not benefiting from a life in your home, considering relinquishment is a responsible choice.
